Holy Cross downs New Hampshire in Hockey East Tournament Quarterfinals

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Charlotte Sonntag scored a pair of goals, as the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team defeated New Hampshire 5-4 in the quarterfinals of the Hockey East Tournament at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders improve to 19-12-3 on the season and move on to the semifinals. The Wildcats finish the year at 16-16-3 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
• New Hampshire opened the scoring late in the first period on a goal by Kelly Harty.
• Holy Cross responded with goals from Sonntag and junior Lulu Rourke in the second period to take a 2-1 lead.
• The Wildcats' Alyson Hush found the net later in the second, tying the game up at 2-2 heading into the third period.
• The Crusaders then ran off three straight goals, by junior Reghan Chadwick, Sonntag and senior Alexia Moreau, to pull in front 5-2.
• New Hampshire would add two goals down the stretch with an extra attacker after pulling its goaltender, but Holy Cross was able to hold on for the 5-4 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Moreau's goal was her 13th on the year, the highest single-season total by any Crusader in the Hockey East era.
• Senior Abby Hornung made 36 saves on the day. 
• New Hampshire finished the game with a 40-31 advantage in shots on goal.

TOURNAMENT TIDBITS:
• The Crusaders advance to the semifinals of the Hockey East Tournament for the first time in program history.
• Holy Cross' victory was just its second all-time in the Hockey East Tournament, and its first at home.

NEXT UP:
• The Crusaders will return to action on Tuesday, March 3, when they travel to Connecticut for the Hockey East semifinals.
