BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team fell to Canisius, 5-3, Saturday afternoon at the LECOM Harborcenter.

With the loss, Holy Cross moves to 14-14-2 (12-8-2 AHA), while Canisius improves to 15-13-2 (10-10-2 AHA).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Canisius got out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, netting goals at the 13:08 and 3:45 marks.
• Sophomore Matt Kursonis cut the lead in half just under three minutes into the second period on the power play. Junior Jack Stockfish grabbed the loose puck along the boards, finding Kursonis alone across the ice for the one-timer into the back of the net.
• Senior Michael Abgrall tied the game five minutes later, completing a give-and-go play with junior Connor Welsh.
• Canisius regained the lead with a power play goal halfway through a five-minute opportunity.
• Sophomore Owen Kim cleaned up a rebound off a shot by junior Jack Stockfish on the power play with 7:03 remaining in regulation to once again tie the game up, this time at 3-3.
• Canisius took the lead once again with 2:46 remaining in regulation, before hitting the empty net with a power play goal with seven seconds to play.

BEYOND THE BOX:

• Freshman Danick Leroux recorded 24 saves in the contest.
• Stockfish led both sides with 14 faceoff wins as Holy Cross won 40 draws to the Golden Griffin's 32.
• Sophomore Ty Gagno led both sides with six blocked shots.

UP NEXT:

• Holy Cross will continue their road stretch next weekend in Fairfield, Conn.
• The two game set, against Sacred Heart, is set for Friday, Feb. 20 and Saturday, Feb. 21, both at 7 p.m.
