WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman Marianna MacLean was named Patriot League Field Hockey Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Patriot League, while senior Maguire Sturgis and junior Mia McCloskey were named to the All-Patriot League Second Team, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

MacLean led the Crusaders in the regular season with 25 points on eight goals and nine assists. The freshman from Edinburgh, Scotland, who played all 15 games, finished second in the Patriot League in points, fourth in assists and fifth in goals to lead Holy Cross to its first Patriot League Championship berth since the Spring 2021 season. The only freshman to earn a spot on the Patriot League First Team, MacLean also led the Patriot League and ranked 28th in NCAA DI with 1.67 points per game, fourth among all freshmen. A five-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week, and one-time Midfielder of the Week, MacLean posted six points in League play, including an assist in the Crusaders win over American to clinch a berth in the postseason.

Sturgis, who earned a spot on a postseason team for a second-straight season, started all 15 games for the Crusaders this season and led the team with 865 minutes played. Sturgis recorded two goals on the season, including the game-winning goal against Merrimack. The senior from Topsfield, Mass. has posted 50 points on 17 goals and 16 assists over her four seasons on The Hill.

McCloskey, who is a second-time Second Team honoree, finished the season with a 7-5 record, 1.79 goals-against average, and .689 save percentage. In the six Patriot League games this season, McCloskey posted a 3-3 record with a 1.30 goals-against and .680 save percentage, backstopping Holy Cross to its first Patriot League playoff appearance in five years.

No. 4-seeded Holy Cross will travel to Easton, Pa. on Thursday, Nov. 5 to face no. 1 seed and no. 15 nationally ranked Lafayette at 12 p.m.
