TEMPE, Ariz. - The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team fell to  Arizona State, 5-4 in overtime, in Saturday's series finale at Mullett Arena.

Both teams move to 2-2-0 on the season with the result

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Arizona State wasted no time getting on the board, netting a goal 6:33 into the opening period.
  • Junior Matt Kursonis found himself with a breakaway opportunity thanks to a perfectly placed pass by junior Owen Kim on a penalty kill. Picking his corner, Kursonis netted a goal with .1 remaining on the clock, and, after a long review, the goal stood to tie the game at 1-1 going into the first intermission.
  • Kim scored a goal of his own with five minutes remaining in the second period, sending a one-timer past the Sun Devils netminder.
  • With 19.5 seconds remaining in the middle period, senior David Hymovitch forced a turnover at the offensive blue line before skating to the net and flipping the puck over the netminders' shoulder for the 3-1 lead going into the break.
  • Arizona State dominated the third period, scoring power play goals at the 7:45 and 1:33 marks, and an even strength goal with 4:32 to go, to take the 4-3 lead.
  • Pulling the goaltender for the extra attacker, Hymovitch found the net for the second time, tying the game with 17 seconds to play in regulation.
  • Though Holy Cross won the opening faceoff of overtime, it was Arizona State who found the back of the net 46 seconds into the extra period.
