Men’s ice hockey set to open season with home series against Maine

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team is set to host Maine for a two-game set to open their 2026-27 campaign on Friday, Oct. 2 at the Hart Center Rink and Saturday, Oct. 3 at the DCU Center. Both games are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and will stream live on FloHockey, while Friday's game will be simulcast on NESN Plus.
 
THE CRUSADERS (0-0-0, 0-0-0 AHA):
  • Holy Cross finished the 2025-26 season with an 18-18-2 record and their fifth-straight trip to the Atlantic Hockey semifinal round.
  • Holy Cross returns 18 letterwinners from last year's squad, including six of their top-10 points-getters in the forward line.
  • The defense is anchored by senior captain Brody Gagno and senior alternate captain Will Elias.
  • Elias, coming off a career year, posted highs in nearly every category including games played, points, and assists, finishing with 18 points in 38 games.
  • Gagno begins the year in third for games played by a defenseman behind just Cale Ashcroft (Denver) and Evan Murr (Minnesota). Gagno has recorded 21 points and 107 blocked shots over his 114 career games.
  • The Crusaders added 12 new faces in the offseason in nine freshmen and three transfers.
 
SCOUTING MAINE (0-0-0, 0-0-0 HEA):
  • Maine finished the 2025-26 season with an 18-14-3 overall record, falling to Boston College in the first round of the Hockey East playoffs.
  • The Black Bears return 14 letterwinners from last season, while adding 14 newcomers.
  • Among Maine's newcomers is senior forward Tanner Klimpke, whom the Crusaders faced off against the last three seasons while he was at Atlantic Hockey rival Robert Morris.
 
ALL TIME SERIES:
  • Holy Cross is 2-6-0 all-time against Maine, dating back to the 1977-78 season. Maine is 2-0 against Holy Cross in the Division I era.
  • The last time the two teams met in Worcester was Jan. 7, 1979. Maine snuck out the win in the game, 4-3.
  • The teams last met on Oct. 10 and 11, 2025 in Orono, Maine. Then-no. 6 Maine took both games by scores of 5-2 and 6-0.
