ORONO, Maine – Junior
Manny Gendron scored her third goal of the season, but the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team was defeated by Maine 2-1 at the Harold Alfond Sports Arena. The Crusaders fall to 14-7-1 on the season and 6-6-1 in Hockey East, while the Black Bears improve to 8-11-2 overall and 4-5-2 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• After a scoreless first period, Lulu Rucinski put Maine on the board 8:02 in the second off a pass from Brenna Curl.
• Ruchinski made the score 2-0 with another goal 7:35 into the third period, with an assist to Sade Sandilands.
• Less than three minutes later, Gendron redirected a shot by sophomore
Kenzee Hope into the net, trimming the deficit to 2-1.
• But Holy Cross was unable to score again, as the Black Bears held on for the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Senior
Abby Hornung made 31 saves on the night.
• The Black Bears finished the game with a 33-27 advantage in shots on goal.
NEXT UP:
• Holy Cross returns to action on Friday, Jan. 9, when it plays host to Boston College at 6 p.m.
