WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's basketball team outscored Colgate by a 15-5 margin in the extra session and notched a 60-50 victory over the Raiders on Wednesday evening at the Hart Center Arena.
With the victory, Holy Cross improves to 12-8 (6-3 PL) and Colgate falls to 5-15 (1-8 PL).
At the halfway point of the Patriot League season, the Crusaders sit in a tie for third place with Lehigh.
A free throw from junior
Janie Bachmann opened the scoring in overtime and sparked a 9-0 run for the Crusaders over the first 3:31 of the period. Bachmann capped off the run with a pair of free throws and Holy Cross secured the victory by going 11-of-14 from the free throw line in the extra session.
Colgate had tied the game at 45 with 0:02 left in regulation on a jumper from Ella Meabon that forced overtime.
Senior
Kaitlyn Flanagan led Holy Cross with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting and freshman
Asia Wilson added career-highs in both points (10) and rebounds (six). The duo of Bachmann and senior
Meg Cahalan added eight points apiece.
Meabon paced the Raiders with 24 points and 12 rebounds in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A Flanagan jumper at the 4:29 mark of the first quarter ignited a 10-0 run over the remainder of the period and senior Simone Foreman converted a three-point play for a 14-4 Holy Cross lead after one.
- Colgate then scored the first nine points of the second quarter and trimmed the deficit to one at 14-13. The Crusaders were able to hold the Raiders without a point over the final 3:06 and used a three by junior Hannah Griffin followed by a Wilson layup to take a 23-17 lead into the locker room.
- Both teams played strong defense throughout the third period and the game remained tight as Holy Cross held on for a 29-27 lead after three.
- Flanagan opened the fourth quarter with a three-point play and later added a jumper for a 34-27 advantage with 6:59 remaining. The Plymouth Meeting, Pa., native added a second layup plus the free throw later in the period, but Colgate would not go quietly and used a pair of buckets from Meabon inside the final 14 seconds that tied the game at 45 apiece.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Flanagan scored 13 of her 17 points between the fourth quarter and overtime.
- For Wilson, the 10 points surpasses her previous career-high of seven that had been set in a win at Boston College on Nov. 3, 2025.
- Bachmann was 6-of-8 from the charity stripe and recorded eight points, nine rebounds and three blocks in the victory, while fellow junior Kendall Eddy tallied five points, four rebounds, three assists, six steals and three blocks.
- The six steals are the most by a Crusader since Avery LaBarbera tallied eight against Columbia on Mar. 16, 2022.
- As a team, the Crusaders recorded 15 steals which marks the most in a game since notching 18 in a win over Connecticut College on Nov. 20, 2022.
- Holy Cross shot 31.7% (19-of-60) from the floor, while Colgate was 21-of-71 (29.6%).
