WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Emily Crovo netted a pair of goals to lead the 14th-ranked Holy Cross women's ice hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Providence at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders improve to 17-7-1 on the season and 9-6-1 in Hockey East, while the Friars fall to 7-16-2 overall and 4-9-2 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
• Holy Cross opened the scoring late in the first period, when Crovo scored her first goal off a pass from freshman Naemi Herzig.
• Crovo then increased the lead to 2-0 in the second period, knocking in a rebound after a shot by freshman forward Violet Carroll had been saved.
• The score remained the same until late in the third period, when Jessie Pellerin put Providence on the board with an extra attacker after pulling the goalie.
• But that was as close as the Friars would get, as the Crusaders held on for the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Crovo tied her career high for goals scored, netting two goals for the fourth time.
• Senior Brooke Loranger made 20 saves on the night.
• Holy Cross finished the game with a 23-21 advantage in shots on goal.
• The victory was the first ever for the Crusaders against the Friars, after going 0-21-1 in the previous 22 meetings.

NEXT UP:
• Holy Cross hits the road on Saturday, Jan. 24, when it concludes the weekend series with Providence at 3 p.m.
