WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team defeated Air Force, 3-2, in overtime Friday night at the Hart Center Rink.

With the win, Holy Cross improves to 11-8-2 (9-2-2 AHA) while Air Force falls to 10-11-2 (6-8-1 AHA).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Holy Cross got on the board first 5:55 into the opening period thanks to freshman Anthony Carone's first collegiate goal. Picking up a pass from junior Ty Gagno, Carone flipped a backhand shot over the shoulder of the Falcons' net minder.
• Air Force tied the game and took the lead with two goals in a span of 1:26 just over halfway through the middle period.
• Senior Michael Abgrall tied the game with his fourth power play goal of the season, flipping in a rebound off a shot by junior Will Elias.
• Air Force was dominant in the third period - outshooting Holy Cross 7-1 - but neither team was able to score.
• Sophomore Noah Eyre proved to be the hero in overtime, collecting the puck in front of the net and sending his own rebound over the outstretched netminder.

BEYOND THE BOX:

• Freshman Danick Leroux recorded 21 saves in the contest.
• Junior Jack Stockfish continued to be dominant at the face-off dot, leading both sides with 13 wins and tallying a .684 win percentage.
• The two teams played nearly identical, with shots even at 23 and blocked shots even at 13. Holy Cross held the slight edge in face-offs, 37-35.

• The two teams will meet again tomorrow night, Saturday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. to round out the weekend series.
