Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Balanced scoring leads men’s basketball to mid-week victory versus Army

WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore guard Tyler Boston scored a game-high 20 points as the Holy Cross men's basketball team picked up an 82-75 win in the Hart Center Arena over Patriot League foe Army West Point Wednesday evening.
 
Boston was one of five Crusaders (8-10, 3-2 PL) in double-figures as he was 6-for-12 (50.0 percent) from the field and 4-for-4 (100 percent) from long distance with five assists and two rebounds. Freshman forward Aiden Disu recorded his first collegiate double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds while junior guard/forward Joe Nugent (17 points), junior guard/forward Gabe Warren (14 points) and junior guard DeAndre Williams (13 points) contributed to the victory.
 
Holy Cross improved to 3-2 in league play which is their best record through five games in conference action since starting the year 3-2 in 2016-17.
 
Army (7-11, 1-4 PL) was led by Jaxson Bell who dropped 20 points with eight boards and three assists in 30 minutes off the bench.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Nugent gave the Crusaders their first lead, 3-2 via a catch and shoot three off a pass from Warren. On the next possession, Boston dished to Warren for a triple making it 6-2. Nugent drilled a deeper three off a Boston pass expanding the edge to 9-2 3:01 into the contest. Back-to-back triples from the Black Knights kept them down three, 11-8. Army tied the game 15 all until the Crusaders went on a 14-4 run with Williams knocking down three freebies at the line for the 29-19 advantage with 10:31 left.
  • The Black Knights came within two, 37-35 thanks to a 16-8 run with under six minutes to play.  The Crusaders closed the half on a 15-2 scoring burst. Junior guard John St. Germain III had a hoop and harm with a steal to layup on back-to-back possessions while Boston canned a mid-range jumper for the 52-39 halftime lead.
  • A Williams corner three-ball increased the Holy Cross advantage to 59-45 with 14:35 to play. Two Disu charity stripe connections kept the hosts in the lead at 63-50. Army countered with 11 consecutive markers to make it 63-61 with 6:36 to go.
  • Warren, Disu and Nugent had post scores to regain the two-possession lead at 69-63. Army came within two, 63-61 with 6:36 left, but Warren countered by powering his way through the post for a one handed floater making it 65-61. Army dropped the lead to three, 74-71 following a three-ball. Warren answered again for two regaining the multiple score lead for Holy cross.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Nugent (174) passed Andrew Beinert (173, 2007-11) for fourth place on the program's all-time three-pointer list following a 4-for-7 (57.1 percent) performance. He needs 18 more three-pointers to move to third place in team history (191, Devin Brown 2008-12).
  • Across five conference games, Warren is shooting 65.8 percent (25-for-38) from the field.
  • Holy Cross was 10-for-13 (76.9 percent) from three during the first half and set a season-high in three-pointers (13) and three-point percentage (59.1) in the game.
  • 52 points in the first half tied the season high which happened at during the 2025-26 opener at Providence on Nov. 3.
  • Disu is the first Crusader to record a double-double this season. His 11 rebounds was an individual team-high this year.
  • Boston scored 20+ points for the third time this season.
  • Holy Cross has recorded 12 or fewer turnovers in 10 straight games.
