WORCESTER, Mass. – Three different players scored in double figures and the Holy Cross women's basketball team limited American to 29.3% shooting from the floor in a 65-48 victory over the Eagles on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center Arena.
The Crusaders improve to 9-6 (3-1 PL) with the victory, while American falls to 4-11 (2-2 PL).
Holy Cross led for the final 33 minutes of the contest and cruised to the victory in the second half.
Senior
Simone Foreman paced the Crusaders with 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting and the duo of junior
Janie Bachmann and senior
Meg Cahalan added 12 points apiece.
Madisyn Moore-Nicholson and Charlotte Tuhy had 11 points apiece to lead American in the setback.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- American led 9-8 in the early stages of the contest when Bachmann hit a layup to spark an 8-1 run over the final 3:09 of the quarter as Holy Cross led 16-10 after one.
- The Eagles fought back within one at 18-17 before a Cahalan layup followed by consecutive buckets from Foreman quickly stretched the lead back to 24-17. Junior Kendall Eddy connected on a jumper in the final minute that gave the Crusaders a 31-22 lead at the half.
- A Cahalan layup at the 7:15 mark of the third quarter ignited a 13-2 run over a five-plus minute stretch of the third quarter and the senior captain capped off the run with another layup to make it a 46-28 game for the time being.
- Holy Cross took a 50-32 lead into the fourth quarter and would lead by as many as 24 points in the period behind six points from freshman Asia Wilson. A Wilson jumper with 1:41 to play extended the lead to 65-41 as the Crusaders notched their third Patriot League victory of the season.
