Flanagan enters Patriot League top 10 all-time in assists as women's basketball falls to Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Senior point guard Kaitlyn Flanagan entered the Patriot League top 10 all-time in assists as the Holy Cross women's basketball team dropped a 61-46 decision to the Army West Point Black Knights on Wednesday evening at Christl Arena.

The Crusaders fall to 9-7 (3-2 PL) on the year, while Army is now 13-3 (4-1 PL).

Flanagan's assist on a bucket from fellow senior Meg Cahalan with 0:33 left in the first quarter was the 468th of her career, tying her for 10th all-time in Patriot League history. She finished the game with 471 assists, which ranks eighth in Holy Cross history and 10th in the league.

Cahalan led the Crusaders with 15 points and junior Kendall Eddy added nine points of her own. Flanagan tallied seven points, five assists, three rebounds, a block and a steal.

Kya Smith paced Army with 18 points and Reganne Reardon added 13 off the bench.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Black Knights led 9-5 in the early stages of the first quarter when Cahalan sank a jumper and the senior forward scored the final seven points of the period for the Crusaders who led 12-11 after one.
  • Holy Cross led 14-13 following a jumper by senior Simone Foreman at the 8:22 mark of the second quarter before Army responded with a 14-6 stretch over the remainder of the quarter. Smith sank a pair of free throws in the final minute that gave the hosts a 27-20 lead at the half.
  • A Flanagan three and Cahalan layup brought the Crusaders back within five on a couple occasions early in the third, but the Black Knights used a 14-5 run which stretched the lead to double figures at 44-30.
  • Army held a 50-34 lead after three and Holy Cross continued to battle before ultimately coming up short in the 61-46 setback. Eddy scored six points in the fourth quarter for the Crusaders.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Flanagan surpassed Maile Shimoda of Navy (2000-04) when she entered into the conference's Top-10 all-time in assists. The Plymouth Meeting, Pa., native becomes the fifth Crusader in the top 10 following Veronica Jutras (1996-2000), Kim Lynch (1992-96), Alex Smith (2010-14) and Anna Kinne (1996-2000).
  • Holy Cross held a 38-34 edge on the glass behind 11 boards from senior Mary-Elizabeth Donnelly and eight from Foreman. The Crusaders have now outrebounded their opponents in 10 consecutive games dating back to Nov. 30.
  • Donnelly's 11 rebounds marked a season-high and her most since recording 13 at Navy on Jan. 8, 2025.
  • The Crusaders shot 32.7% (17-of-52) from the floor, while Army was 20-of-56 (35.7%) in the contest.
