WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to Quinnipiac, 2-1, in its season opener Friday night at the Hart Turf Field.

Quinnipiac improves to 1-0 on the season with the win, while Holy Cross moves to 0-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Junior Maguire Sturgis got the Crusaders on the board just under 12 minutes into the first quarter, receiving a pass from freshman Alexa Birch, and sending it into the corner of the goal.
• Quinnipiac tied the game just under two minutes later on a corner before taking the lead just under nine minutes into the third quarter.

BEYOND THE BOX:

• Sophomore Mia McCloskey made 11 saves in her season debut.
• Birch's assist was the first point of her career.

UP NEXT:

• Holy Cross will return home on Sunday, Aug. 31 when they welcome Merrimack to the Hart Turf at 12 p.m.
