WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team hosted Fairfield for the 2025 season opener on Thursday evening. A tough battle concluded with the Stags edging out the Crusaders 1-0.

IN GOAL:

• Holy Cross: Aubrey Haesche (L, 0-1), four saves
• Fairfield: Katie Wright (W, 1-0), six saves

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Fairfield struck first with an unassisted goal by Maddy Theriault at 14:36 in the first half.
• The Stags led the Crusaders 9-7 in shots while Holy Cross had the 2-1 advantage in corners through 45 minutes.
• Neither team scored, with both teams picking up two corners and six shots apiece to end the second half.
• Fairfield led Holy Cross 15-13 in shots and the Crusaders led 4-3 in corners to conclude the game. Both teams had six shots on goal during the competition.
• Strong first outing by freshman goalie, Haesche, in her collegiate debut.

UP NEXT:

• The Crusaders (0-1) return to action on Sunday, Aug. 17, for a 1:00 pm kickoff at Northeastern (0-0) in Brookline, Mass., at Parsons Field.
