Gianni Royer of the Holy Cross baseball team were named to the 2025 Academic All-Patriot League Team as voted on by the league's sports information directors announced by the conference office Thursday morning.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, and be a starter or key reserve.

Macchiarola was voted Academic All-League for the second consecutive season while King and Royer are first time honorees. This was the third time in program history that the Crusaders had three student-athletes named Academic All-Patriot League.
King was announced as a first team All-Patriot League honoree yesterday, is a political science major with a 3.49 GPA. A member of the 2025 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, King has started and played in all 49 games for the Crusaders this season. He is tied for first in the Patriot League in doubles (16) and is second in hits (62), third in batting average (.335), third in fielding assists (107), tied for sixth in RBI (36), sixth in stolen bases (18), 10th in runs scored (36) and 10th in fielding double plays (16). In conference games, King is tied for third in doubles (8), ranks fourth in stolen bases (10), sixth in runs scored (21), tied for seventh in hits (28), and 10th in fielding assists (50). The team captain had the Patriot League single-game high with five hits in a 5-for-6 effort at VMI on March 9. He ranks second on the team with 16 multi-hit efforts, with two 4+ hit games and 1 5+ hit performance. He is a perfect 18-of-18 on stolen bases this season.

Macchiarola, a history major with a 3.49 GPA was just announced as a second team All-Patriot League choice. The Patriot League Pitcher of the Week on March 3 has made 12 starts on the season, and he ranks second in the league in wins (7), strikeouts (69), and innings pitched (70.1), while coming in at third in batting average against (.217), and fifth in ERA (3.71). His WHIP in 2025 is 1.14. In conference games, the team captain ranks second in batting average against (.199), strikeouts (42) and tied for second in wins (4), fourth in innings pitched (42.0), and fifth in ERA (3.43). His WHIP in league duels is 0.98. He has hurled six or more innings in eight of his 12 starts and has posted eight or more strikeouts in four starts.

Royer majors in economics and has posted a 3.74 GPA. An All-League second team selection, he has started and played in 44 games for Holy Cross. He is tied for the Patriot League lead in doubles (16) with King and ranks third in stolen bases (23), seventh in hits (53), tied for eighth in runs scored (38), and RBI (35). In conference games, the center fielder ranks second in doubles (10), third in stolen bases (11), 10th in batting average (.325) and 10th in slugging percentage (.488). He is tied for second on the team with 11 multi-RBI games and is fourth on the team in multiple hit games with 14.Â

The No. 1 seed regular season champion Crusaders (27-22, 17-8 PL) will host No. 4 seed Lehigh (23-24, 11-14 PL) in a best of three Patriot League Tournament semifinals series starting on Saturday, May 10 at 1 p.m.
