WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — The Holy Cross men's tennis team was defeated by Navy 4-0 at the Westboro Tennis & Swim Club. The Crusaders fall to 7-8 on the season and 3-3 in the Patriot League, while the Midshipmen improve to 19-14 overall and 6-0 in the conference.
DOUBLES ACTION:
• Navy began the day wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots to claim the doubles point.
• At No. 1 doubles, senior
Jeremy Clark and freshman
Ezequiel De la Plaza held a 5-4 lead over Luke Garner and Jake Young, before play was stopped after the point had been determined.
SINGLES PLAY:
• There were a number of close singles matches, but the Midshipmen picked up victories at the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 positions to claim the overall win.
• At No. 1, De la Plaza was edged by Herrick Legaspi 7-6 (8-6), 5-7, 6-4.
• Sophomore
Teddy Callery fell to Garner 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3.
• In matches that were not completed, sophomore
Matt Carlson was tied with Nathan Nguyen 7-6 (7-5), 0-6, 5-5 at No. 2, while junior
Camilo Illanes led George Cutone 6-4, 2-2 at No. 5.
