WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross baseball team clinched the 2025 Patriot League Regular Season Championship with a 20-2, seven-inning drubbing of Lafayette on Sunday, April 27 at Fitton Field.
The Crusaders (24-21, 15-7 PL) have won 11 of their last 15 games and eight of their last nine Patriot League contests. The regular season title, which clinches home field advantage for the 2025 Patriot League Championship, is the second in program history and first since 2013.
Holy Cross needs one more conference win to establish the new team record for Patriot League wins in a single season.
The Crusaders batted around the order in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring 18 runs over those two frames. The leadoff and two-hole duo of junior right fielder
CJ Egrie and senior designated hitter
Sean Scanlon reached base in every plate appearance, going a combined 6-for-6 with seven runs scored, three RBI two doubles, five stolen bases, two walks and two hit-by-pitches. Egrie needs one more run scored to pass Matt Perry (54, 2010) for first place on the program's single season list.
Senior first baseman
Chris Baillargeon matched a career-high with five RBI. Junior right-handed pitcher
Jaden Wywoda retired 17 straight Lafayette (13-32, 8-14 PL) batters before losing the perfect game bid with a walk in the bottom of the sixth with two outs and the no-hitter on the next batter.
The 20 runs scored were a season-high for the Crusaders, as well as their 18 RBI. They matched their season-best with eight stolen bases.
Holy Cross retired the jerseys of five Crusader Legends — the first retired jerseys in program history — before the game: Jack Barry (Class of 1910), Owen Carroll (Class of 1925), Jim O'Neill (Class of 1952), Ron Perry (Class of 1954) and Louis Sockalexis (Class of 1897).
