WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior
Kate Burns and senior
Sally Zinsner both tallied four points on three goals and one assist, but lead the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 19 Army West Point 13-11 at Kuzniewski Field. The Crusaders fall to 8-6 on the season and 4-3 in the Patriot League, while the Black Knights improve to 11-2 overall and 6-1 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The game was close throughout a first half in which the score was tied on four different occasions.
• Army scored with 38 seconds left in the second quarter to go in front 8-7 at the break, then netted the first three goals of the third quarter to take an 11-7 lead.
• Holy Cross would trim the deficit to two goals twice in the fourth quarter, but would get no closer as the Black Knights held on for the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Junior
Racheli Levy-Smith finished the night with 13 draw controls and two caused turnovers.
• Junior
Mackenzie Creagh made 10 saves in net.
• Sophomore
Annabel Brennan scored three goals, while senior
Isabela Miller added two goals and one assist.
• Army was led by Brigid Duffy and Allison Reilly with four goals each.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• Levy-Smith broke the school career record for draw controls during the second quarter. She now has 250 draw controls during her time at Holy Cross, surpassing the mark which had been held by Keely Connors (240 draw controls, 2016-2019).
UP NEXT:
• The Crusaders will return to action on Saturday, April 19, when they travel to No. 15 Loyola (Md.) for a 12 p.m. game.
