LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior right fielder
CJ Egrie established the new program single-season steal record as the Holy Cross baseball team swept Patriot League foe Bucknell 8-6 in seven innings and 7-3 Sunday afternoon on Depew Field.
The victories move the Crusaders to 18-19, 9-6 PL while the Bison fall to 13-21, 5-10 PL. Holy Cross has won five of their last seven games.
Egrie's record theft came in the third inning of the game two win. His 25 steals passed Evan Ocello's old mark of 24 set during the 2014 season. Egrie is 25-for-31 (80.6 percent) on stolen bases in 2025 and his 25 steals pace the Patriot League.
Senior shortstop
Jimmy King was 5-for-9 (.556) in the doubleheader with a double, two runs scored, an RBI and a pair of stolen bases. He posted his second 4+ hit effort of the season going 4-for-4 in game one.
Sophomore left fielder
John LaFleur belted a go-ahead grand slam with two outs in the top of the seventh in the game two win.
GAME ONE: HOLY CROSS 8, BUCKNELL 6 (7 INN.)
STARTING ON THE MOUND:
- Junior Jaden Wywoda: (W, 6-1), 5.0 innings pitched, six hits allowed, four runs – three earned, four walks, three strikeouts.
- Everett Garber: (L, 0-3), 4.0 innings pitched, six hits allowed, six runs – five earned, two walks, two strikeouts.
OUT OF THE BULLPEN:
- Senior Luke LeMond: 2.0 innings pitched, one hit allowed, two runs – one earned, two walks, one strikeout.
- Nick Mulvey: 2.0 innings pitched, three hits allowed, two earned runs, zero walks, two strikeouts.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
- Jimmy King: 4-for-4, double, RBI, run scored, two stolen bases.
- Senior Connor Peek: 2-for-3, two RBI, run scored.
- CJ Egrie: 1-for-3, double, RBI.
- Senior Chris Baillargeon: 1-for-3, run scored, walk.
- Sophomore Gianni Royer: 1-for-4, two runs scored.
- Tyler Dunn: 1-for-3, three RBI, run scored
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Holy Cross scored twice in the top half of the first via a wild pitch and a King RBI double.
- Bucknell countered with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the first to trim the deficit to 2-1.
- An infield bunt single in the second by the Bison and a groundout pushed them ahead 3-2.
- With two outs in the top of the fourth, Peek singled to center to drive home two runs regaining the lead to the Crusader side at 4-3. Egrie kept the line moving launching a two run double to expand the margin to 6-3.
- The hosts cut into the lead in the bottom of the fourth to trail 6-4.
- Holy Cross loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the fifth. Jones recorded an RBI on a sacrifice bunt to push the lead to 7-4. A wild pitch tacked on another run to double up the Bison 8-4.
- Bucknell tacked on a pair in the sixth to trail 8-6.
- Holy Cross loaded the bases in the seventh but could not cash in.
GAME TWO: HOLY CROSS 7, BUCKNELL 3 (FINAL)
STARTING ON THE MOUND:
- Senior Sean Scanlon: (ND), 2.2 innings pitched, four hits allowed, one earned run, two walks, strikeout.
- Ben Magovern: (ND), 6.0 innings pitched, four hits allowed, one earned run, one walk, five strikeouts.
OUT OF THE BULLPEN:
- Freshman Derek Volz: 3.1 innings pitched, two hits allowed, one earned run, two walks, five strikeouts.
- Freshman Pedro Leon: (W, 1-2), 1.0 innings pitched, one hit allowed, one earned run, three walks, zero strikeouts.
- Freshman Marco Citro: (S, 1), 2.0 innings pitched, one hit allowed, zero earned runs, zero walks, two strikeouts.
- Hadley Maxwell: (L, 1-3), 1.0 innings pitched, four hits allowed, five earned runs, two walks.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
- John LaFleur: 1-for-4, grand slam, four RBI, run scored, walk.
- Chris Baillargeon: 2-for-3, double, RBI, two walks.
- Freshman Nick Spaner: 1-for-3, double, run scored.
- Gianni Royer: 1-for-3, RBI, walk.
- CJ Egrie: 1-for-4, two runs scored, walk, stolen base.
- Tyler Dunn: 2-for-4, run scored, walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bucknell bashed a solo homer in the bottom of the second to take the lead 1-0.
- Egrie stole second base in the third then Baillargeon doubled down the right field line with two down to tie the score 1-1.
- A bases loaded hit by pitch earned a run to the Bucknell ledger to regain the lead 2-1.
- Holy Cross struck for five runs in the top of the seventh getting a grand slam from LaFleur with two away to take a 6-2 edge.
- The Bison scored a run in the eighth and had the tying run at the plate, but Citro induced a ground out keep the Crusaders ahead 6-3.
- Holy Cross tacked on another run in the ninth inning.

- Holy Cross remains on the road this coming Wednesday, April 16 at Army West Point (16-17, 10-7 PL),
- First pitch for the mid-week Patriot League game is set for 4 p.m.
