WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior captain Haley Murphy, senior Ella Grey and junior captain Liam Lyons of the Holy Cross track and field teams have been named to the Indoor Track and Field Academic All-League Team, as announced by the Patriot League on Wednesday.
Murphy earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.890 concluding the fall of her senior year. She competed in seven of the 10 meets so far this season. She placed ninth in the 400m prelim with a time of 57.20 and helped the 4x400m relay team to second and the silver medal with a time of 3:47.92. Murphy is a Second Team All-Patriot League selection in the 4x400m relay and aided Holy Cross to a sixth-place team finish at the meet. At the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 15, she set the school record in the indoor 400m with a time of 55.62 for 12th overall. This time ranks her sixth in the Patriot League for the indoor season.
In the classroom, Murphy is a chemistry major. She volunteered for the Holy Cross Office of Sustainability on Civic Engagement Day. She is a SAAC representative and the vice president of Holy Cross's chapter of Alpha Sigma Nu Jesuit Honor Society. In her free time, she does research in a biochemistry lab on campus and works a part-time job as a Library Research Assistant.
Grey earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.490 concluding the fall of her senior year. She competed in eight of the 10 meets so far this season. She reset the 60m hurdles school record five times in a row with a current time of 8.530, which she ran in the 60m hurdles final at the Patriot League Indoor Championship to claim second and the silver medal. Her time is the second fastest in the Patriot League this indoor season. She is a Second Team All-Patriot League selection and helped Holy Cross to a sixth-place team finish at the meet.
In the classroom, Grey is a psychology major. In her free time, she volunteers as an Education Intern at the Goddard School of Science and serves as the Chair of the Education Minor SAC Board.
Lyons earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.490 concluding the fall of his junior year. He competed in seven of the 10 meets so far this season. He claimed second and the silver medal in the mile with a time of 4:01.94 and helped the DMR team to third and the bronze medal with a time of 9:55.16 at the Patriot League Indoor Championship. He is a Second Team All-Patriot League selection and helped Holy Cross to a fifth-place team finish. At the Boston College Showdown at The Heights on Feb. 7-8, he broke the 55-year-old mile school record with a time of 4:00.38 for second overall (first of college runners). At the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 14, he broke the 11-year-old 1000m school record with a time of 2:21.16 for third place overall (second of college runners). He hasn't finished in anything less than the top three all season. His 1000m time is the fastest in the Patriot League this indoor season. His mile time is third in the Patriot League this indoor season.
In the classroom, Lyons is an international studies and philosophy double major. So for this year he has volunteered for the Holy Cross Office of Sustainability on Civic Engagement Day, at the Community Harvest 5k, volunteered at the Community Cleanup around campus and at the Crusader Community Festival. In his free time, he is a SAAC representative, works in the Holy Cross Athletic Ticket Office and is a member of the Holy Cross Finance Club.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in their sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
The Holy Cross track and field teams conclude the 2024-25 indoor season at the New England Indoor Championship from Friday, Mar. 7 through 8. The meet will be held at The Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass.
