Berger double-doubles in women’s basketball setback to Army West Point

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior forward Lindsay Berger recorded an 11 point and game-high 11 rebound double-double as the Holy Cross women's basketball team fell to Patriot League foe Army West Point 64-46 Wednesday evening in the Hart Center Arena.
 
Holy Cross will be the No. 5 seed in the upcoming 2025 Patriot League Tournament. The two-time defending champion Crusaders will travel to No. 4 seed Navy (19-10, 11-7 PL) on Monday, March 10 for the quarterfinal round matchup at 7 p.m.
 
The double-double was Berger's 10th of her career and fourth this season for the Crusaders (18-11, 11-7). Junior guard Kaitlyn Flanagan recorded her 400th career assist in the contest to go with 11 points for the Crusaders (18-11, 11-7 PL). Classmate Simone Foreman scored 11 points in 24 minutes off the bench.
 
For Army (22-6, 14-4 PL) Trinity Hardy had a massive double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Meg Cahalan and Berger put the hosts up 4-0 early in the contest. Another Berger bucket and one of two at the line increased the lead to 7-2. Eight in a row by Army put them ahead 10-7 following a hoop and harm. Flanagan made a pair of freebies before the Black Knights banked in a shot at the buzzer to lead 15-14 after 10 minutes.
  • Army began the second, doubling up the Crusaders 12-6 to lead by seven 27-20 with 2:13 left in the half. A sophomore Kendall Eddy triple put the Crusaders down four, 27-23. The Black Knights scored the final four points to lead 31-23 at the half.
  • The third quarter remained scoreless 3:20 into the new period until Army hit one of two at the line to push ahead 32-23. The 12-3 opening quarter burst moved them ahead 43-26. Sophomore Hannah Griffin found Foreman wide open underneath as the Crusaders trailed 47-33 after three.
  • With Army head 53-37, the Crusaders posted seven straight points with five coming from Foreman to drop the deficit to nine, 53-44 with 4:40 left. Army closed the contest on a 11-2 run.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Berger posted double-figure points for the 10th consecutive game and in 14-of-18 Patriot League contests in 2024-25.
  • Junior Mary-Elizabeth Donnelly corralled double-digit rebounds (10) for the sixth time this year.
  • The Crusaders outscored the Black Knights in the paint (32-to-24), but the guests outrebounded the hosts (43-to-36).
