Five reach double figures in women’s basketball win at No. 4 Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Five players reached double-figures including senior forward Lindsay Berger as the No. 5 Holy Cross women's basketball team went on the road and posted a 66-52 upset of No. 4 seed Navy in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Women's Basketball Championship Monday evening in Alumni Hall.
 
The Crusaders (19-11) advance to the Patriot League semifinals for the third straight year to face No. 1 Lehigh (25-6) on the road at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 13. Navy's (19-11) season ends with the setback.
 
Just named academic All-Patriot League on Monday, Berger, the second and all-defensive team honoree scored a game-high 19 points going 8-for-18 (44.4%) from the field with eight boards an assist and a block. Sophomore Kendall Eddy chipped in 15 points with a trio of triples. Juniors Simone Foreman and Kaitlyn Flanagan added 11 points each while classmate Meg Cahalan posted 10 points.
 
For Navy, the Patriot League Defensive Player (Zanai Barnett-Gay) and Rookie of the Year (Julianna Almeida) combined for 36 of the Midshipmen's 52 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A Foreman floater put the Crusaders ahead 6-2 early in the first. From there, the Crusaders used a 9-2 burst getting an Eddy triple to lead 15-4 at the 2:42 mark. Navy broke their scoreless stretch to trail 15-6 after one.
  • In the second, a Mids three put them down two possessions, 15-9 to start the second. A fine baseline cut by Eddy with the feed from Berger increased the margin back to double-figures, 24-10 with 4:16 left before the intermission. A second chance mid-range jumper from Berger put Holy Cross ahead 29-18 at the half.
  • Navy began the third quarter on a 13-3 run to cut the deficit to one, 32-31 with 5:34 left in the half. Foreman canned a three with the shot clock winding down to push the Crusaders back ahead 39-33. Flanagan used a screen and hit an iso mid-range shot for the 45-39 lead after three.
  • Eddy scored four points in a 15 second span early in the fourth to push the Crusaders back in front by double-digits 49-39. Two Navy freebies dropped the deficit to two possessions, 49-43, however, the Crusaders got a triple from Eddy to go back ahead 11, 54-43. Navy went 3:34 in the fourth without scoring a field goal until 52.9 seconds left to trail 60-50 before the Crusaders closed out the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The win was the first Patriot League tournament victory for head coach Candice Green.
  • Flanagan posted zero turnovers for 15th time in her career, the Crusaders 15-0 (1.000) in those contests.
  • Holy Cross has won seven straight Patriot League tournament games.
  • Berger scored 12 of her 19 points in the first half.
  • Holy Cross outrebounded Navy 43-to-37.
  • The Crusader reserves scored 26 points compared to three from the Midshipmen.
  • The eight turnovers were a season-low for Holy Cross.
