SMITHFIELD, R.I.— The Holy Cross track and field teams traveled to Bryant to compete in the Black and Gold Invitational from Friday, Mar. 28 to Saturday, Mar. 29. The men's team finished sixth of 16 teams and the women's team also finished fourth out of 16 competing squads.

The men totaled 52.5 points and the women tallied 78 points in the meet.

WOMEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

• Sophomore Gabby Paolella won the shot put with a mark of 13.05m.
• Junior Celia Kulis won the 100m hurdles (14.44) followed by senior captain Lauren Clark in second (15.08) and senior Jane Feeney in fourth (15.78). 
• Senior captain Maura Switzer clinched second in the pole vault with a mark of 3.56m. Sophomore Alyssa Peasley also competed in the event finishing eighth (3.41m).
• Freshman Lily Deforge took fourth in the discus with a mark of 43.06m.
• Freshman Mary Zabielski came in fourth in the javelin (38.18m) followed by sophomore Grace Ryan in fifth (37.94m).
• Sophomore Angelina Lancey crossed the finish at 1:00.58 in the 500m for sixth place.
• Junior Ester Mokonchu finished seventh in the hammer throw (45.92m).
• Sophomore Keira O'Connor placed seventh in the high jump clearing 1.47m.
• The 4x100m relay team, including junior Giavanna Ciaravino, senior captain Molly O'Connor, freshman Danielle DiEsso and freshman Abby Desmarais, won the event with a time of 47.08.
• The 4x400m relay team, including senior Helene Cummings, freshman Stephanie Cesar, sophomore Cecilia Kvochak and Lancey, came in fifth place with a time of 4:09.13.

MEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

• Junior Jack Ryan clinched second in the javelin throwing for 56.39m.
• Senior captain Brian Fennelly took second in the 110m hurdles (14.82) and third in the 400m hurdles (56.89). Junior Luke Wadzinski also competed in the 400m hurdles crossing the finish at 58.07 for sixth place.
• Freshman Josh Gentchos placed second in the 100m (10.90) followed by senior captain Aidan Bergin in third (10.91).
• Sophomore Michel Mondesir claimed third in the high jump with a mark of 1.89m. Senior Kevin Yatsuhashi (1.84m, tied fifth) also competed in the event.
• Freshman Joey Ryan finished eighth in the 1500m with a time of 4:02.85.

• The Holy Cross track and field teams will return to action for the UMass Flagship Spring Opener hosted by UMass Amherst in Amherst, Mass. on Apr. 5 at the UMass Track & Field Complex.
