CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team defeated Queens, 13-12, Friday afternoon at the Queens Sports Complex.
 
Holy Cross moves to 1-1 with the win, while Queens falls to 0-2 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Queens got on the board first, though a 4-0 scoring run by Holy Cross put the Crusaders on top. Two goals by Queens to close the first quarter gave the Crusaders the slim 4-3 lead going into the break.
• In a back and forth second quarter, sophomore Jon-Luke Duley and Jude Lynch's second goals of the game kept the Crusaders in the lead, entering the half up 6-5.
• Goals by freshman Andrew Ottomanelli, senior Michael Bonomo, junior Sam McDonald, Duley, and Lynch gave Holy Cross the 12-9 lead going into the final quarter of regulation.
• McDonald opened the fourth quarter with his second goal of the game, but a 3-0 run by Queens cut the Crusader lead to 13-12 with 1:46 to play.
• Strong defensive play and a penalty on the Royals gave the Crusaders the ball with under a minute to play and the man-advantage, securing the win for Holy Cross.

 
BEYOND THE BOX:

• Lynch's four goals are a career high.
• Duley's hat trick is his first as a Crusader.
• Junior JR Long picked up his first collegiate win in the contest.

 
UP NEXT:

• Holy Cross will return to Worcester for their home opener on Tuesday, Feb. 11 against UMass Lowell.
• Game time is set for 4 p.m.
