WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team defeated UMass Lowell, 14-9, Tuesday afternoon at Kuzniewski Field.
 
Holy Cross moves to 2-1 with the win, while UMass Lowell moves to 1-1 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Crusaders got on the board early and often, mounting a 5-0 lead over the first ten minutes of the game off goals by senior John Mitchell, sophomores Jude Lynch and William Russler, freshman Andrew Ottomanelli, and junior Will Messineo.
• The Riverhawks cut the lead to 5-3 over the remainder of the first and into the start of the second.
• The two teams traded goals in the second and the start of the third, with sophomores Jon-Luke Duley and Bo Webster holding the lead.
• A 4-1 run by UMass Lowell, cut in half by Messineo's second of the game, tied the game at 8-8, but a 6-1 run by the Crusaders over the final 17 minutes of regulation solidified the win for Holy Cross.

 
BEYOND THE BOX:

• Junior JR Long picked up his second win of the season, recording four saves and a ground ball pickup over his 60 minutes of work.
• Junior Julian Jenkins and sophomore Cooper Fallon led the team with three caused turnovers each, while freshman Harry Attell's six ground balls was a team high.
• Duley has now picked up a hat trick in each of the team's last two games. His third goal of today's contest was ultimately the game winner.
• Sophomore Will Deo picked up his first collegiate goal in the game, the Crusaders' ninth of the contest.

 
UP NEXT:

• Holy Cross will travel to Fairfield, Conn. to face Sacred Heart in a non-conference matchup on Saturday, Feb. 15.
• Game time is set for 12 p.m.
