Women’s basketball falls to Navy on Senior Day

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's basketball team suffered a 66-57 loss to Patriot League opponent Navy Saturday afternoon on Senior Day in the Hart Center Arena.
 
In a pregame ceremony seniors Grace Munt, Lauren Huber, and Lindsay Berger were honored for their contributions to the program and the College.

Berger matched a game-high 18 points to go with seven boards, three assists a steal, and a block on 58.3 percent (7-of-12) shooting for the Crusaders (16-10, 9-6 PL). Fellow forward, junior Meg Cahalan joined her teammate in double-figures with 11 points connecting on a pair of three-balls.
 
Navy (16-10, 8-7) snapped their four game losing streak was led by Zanai Barnett-Gay who scored 18 points with a game-high six assists and six rebounds. Julianna Almeida double-doubled with 13 points and 10 boards.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A Cahalan old fashioned three-point play gave the Crusaders their first lead at 3-0, 55 seconds into the first. Junior Mary-Elizabeth Donnelly canned a mid-range jumper reestablishing the three point edge. Five in a row from Navy opened up a 16-9 score. Holy Cross closed the quarter notching the final five points to trail 18-17 through one.
  • Navy led by six late in the second. Sophomore Kendall Eddy put her team down two, 27-25 connecting on a jumper with 2:08 left in the half. The Midshipmen led 33-27 at the half.
  • With 3:58 left in the third, junior Simone Foreman split one of two at the line to bring her team within three, 39-36. Eddy drained another mid-range jumper keeping the Crusaders within two possessions, 47-42 after 30 minutes of action.
  • In the fourth, junior Kaitlyn Flanagan drove through traffic for the hoop and harm putting the Crusaders down two, 47-45 with 8:25 left. A Navy second chance bucket and a mid-range jumper regained the two possession lead 51-45. Cahalan hit a three off an inbounds play, putting her squad down three, 51-48 with 5:39 left. From there the guests took control of the period outscoring the Crusaders nine-to-four to build an eight point lead late.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Navy outscored the Crusaders 34-to-24 in the paint, outrebounded them 47-to-36 (12-to-5 offensive) and scored more points off turnovers (11-to-2).
  • Holy Cross matched a season-low in turnovers (9, vs. Stony Brook – Dec. 8, 2024).
  • Foreman recorded a team-high eight rebounds in 20 minutes of action.
  • Navy, the top rebounding team in the Patriot League (40.5) has the two highest single-game rebound totals against Holy Cross this year (45 at Navy, Jan. 8, 2025) (47 vs. Navy, Feb. 22, 2025).

  • Holy Cross remains at home in the Hart Center when they take on Colgate (21-7, 11-4 PL).
