EASTON, Pa. – Four players scored in double-digits as the Holy Cross women's basketball team rolled to a wire-to-wire 83-42 win against Patriot League opponent Lafayette Wednesday evening at the Kirby Sports Center.
Senior forward
Lindsay Berger starred for the Crusaders (16-9, 9-5 PL) scoring a game-high 16 points on 77.8 percent (7-of-9) shooting with eight boards and a career-high seven assists. Junior
Mary-Elizabeth Donnelly scored 15 points on 75 percent (6-of-8) shooting canning three triples. Classmate
Meg Cahalan chipped in 14 points with seven boards and two blocks while junior
Simone Foreman scored 10 points in 24 minutes off the bench.
For Lafayette (7-18, 4-10 PL), Talia Zurinskas scored a team-best 13 markers off the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Holy Cross began the game on a 9-2 burst when Berger made the extra pass to a wide open Donnelly on the left wing for three. A steal and Leopard layup put them down three, 11-8. Back-to-back sophomore Kendall Eddy triples moved the lead to 19-12 in favor of the Crusaders. Berger knocked down a baseline buzzer-beater for the 23-14 edge through one.
- The Crusaders began the second on an 11-0 run to lead 34-14 following a Donnelly corner triple. The lead remained at 20, 42-22 when junior Kaitlyn Flanagan got a steal and layup before the end of the period.
- Holy Cross started the third on a 20-4 burst to build a 36 point, 62-26 lead as Foreman converted a driving layup. Sophomore Hannah Griffin laid in a shot at the buzzer for the 40 point, 68-28 margin.
- The Crusaders' biggest lead reached 47, 81-47 on freshman Stella Gougoufkas' three with 3:13 to play.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Berger scored all of her points in the first half.
- Flanagan posted eight assists and had zero turnovers for the fifth time this season. She has 14 games of zero turnovers in her career and the Crusaders are 14-0 in those games.
- As a team, Holy Cross shot a Patriot League schedule high 55.7 percent (34-of-61) from the field and a season-high 47.6 percent (10-of-21) from three-point range.
- Holy Cross had 27 assists on 34 field goal conversions. The 27 assists were a season-best as well as the 83 points scored by the Crusaders.
