Men’s basketball defeats Lafayette in overtime

WORCESTER, Mass. — Sophomore guard Kahlil Singleton scored a game-high 19 points and freshman guard Max Green added 18 points, as the Holy Cross men's basketball team downed Lafayette 74-69 in overtime at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders improve to 13-15 on the year and 5-10 in the Patriot League, while the Leopards fall to 10-18 overall and 5-10 in the conference.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Holy Cross made just 40.0 percent of its field goal attempts and 39.4 percent of its three-pointers on the night, but connected on five of six shots from the floor in overtime.
• Lafayette was able to hit 45.2 percent of its shots from the field and 37.5 percent of its attempts from three-point range.
• Senior forward Caleb Kenney totaled 14 points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Crusaders, while sophomore guard DeAndre Williams added six points, seven rebounds and a career high-tying eight assists.
• The Leopards were led by Luka Savicevic and Caleb Williams with 15 points each.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Lafayette opened the game by jumping out to an early 8-2 lead after the first four minutes of action. 
• Holy Cross responded with a 16-3 run to go in front by seven (18-11), and would eventually hold a 29-24 halftime lead. 
• The score stayed close throughout the second half, and the Crusaders were up by four (48-44) with 5:17 left to play.
• The Leopards scored the next nine points to take the lead, and went on to hold a 55-50 advantage with 1:18 remaining.
• Green then knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to give Holy Cross a one-point lead (56-55), and the game would go to overtime tied at 56-56.
• The game was later tied at 67-67 with just over a minute to go in the extra session, when Green hit another three-pointer to give the Crusaders the lead for good.
• Holy Cross then hit four of six free throws in the final 30 seconds to pull out the victory.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• The Crusaders improve to 2-0 in overtime games under head coach Dave Paulsen.
• Holy Cross snaps a six-game losing streak in the series with Lafayette.

• The Crusaders return to action on Sunday, Feb. 23, when they travel to Navy for a 2 p.m. game.
