Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s basketball downed by Colgate on Wednesday night

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Holy Cross women's basketball team was defeated 73-51 by Patriot League foe Colgate Wednesday evening on Cotterell Court.
 
Junior forward Meg Cahalan scored a team-high 13 points for the Crusaders (15-8, 8-4 PL). Senior Lindsay Berger joined her teammate in double-figures with 12 points on 80 percent (4-of-5) shooting.
 
For Colgate (18-7, 8-4 PL) Anne Bair scored a game-high 18 points on 7-of-11 (63.6 percent) from the field with four rebounds and three assists.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Colgate built an early 8-3 lead in the first quarter. Junior guard Mary-Elizabeth Donnelly drilled a three on the left wing to level the score at 8-8 with 4:30 left in the first. Following the media timeout, Colgate scored seven straight markers for the 15-8 edge. The Crusaders outscored their opponents six-to-four over the final minutes to trail 19-14 through one.
  • The Raiders lead expanded to nine, 29-20 following a layup. Holy Cross chipped away late in the period getting a pair of corner threes by Donnelly and sophomore Kendall Eddy assisted by junior Kaitlyn Flanagan to trail 34-29 at the break.
  • The hosts outscored the Crusaders 17-to-8 over the opening 5:36 of the third for their first for the double-digit lead at 51-37. Donnelly drained a three at the top of the key putting the Crusaders down 11, 51-40. From there Colgate used a 13-2 run to take control of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Colgate scored 30 of their 73 points in the third quarter shooting 11-for-16 (68.8 percent) in the stanza.
  • Holy Cross was outscored 38-to-20 in the paint.
UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross heads back home to the Hart Center Arena to battle Lehigh (20-4, 11-1 PL) on Saturday, Feb. 15.
