Kenney scores 1,000th career point, Crusaders fall to Colgate

WORCESTER, Mass. — Senior forward Caleb Kenney totaled 12 points, five rebounds and three steals, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Colgate 87-65 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. Kenney scored the 1,000th point on his collegiate career on a layup with 2:34 remaining in the first half, to become the 54th 1,000-point scorer in school history. The Crusaders fall to 12-14 on the year and 4-9 in the Patriot League, while the Raiders improve to 11-15 overall and 8-5 in the conference.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Holy Cross made 44.6 percent of its field goal attempts and 40.0 percent of its three-pointers on the night, but also committed 14 turnovers.
• Colgate was able to connect on 59.3 percent of its shots from the floor and 39.1 percent of its attempts from three-point range.
• Sophomore guard DeAndre Williams finished with 13 points, five rebounds and five assists.
• Freshman guard Max Green added 13 points and two rebounds, while sophomore forward Joe Nugent tallied 10 points and six boards.
• Jalen Cox led the Raiders with 18 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The game was close early on, with Colgate holding a 12-9 edge after the first six minutes of action.
• The Raiders scored the next seven points to extend their lead to double figures, and eventually went up by 15 (33-18) with 5:33 left before the break.
• The Crusaders came back to close out the half with a 13-5 run, trimming the deficit to seven (38-31) heading into the locker room.
• The margin stood at 10 (50-40) early in the second half, before Colgate scored eight straight points to go up by 18 (58-40) with 13:15 to go.
• Holy Cross responded with an 11-3 spurt over the next 2:15, closing back to within 10 points (61-51). 
• But that was as close as the Crusaders would get, as the Raiders pulled away in the final minutes to win by 22.
