Men’s lacrosse falls to Sacred Heart on the road

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team fell to Sacred Heart, 11-7, Saturday afternoon at Campus Field.
 
Holy Cross moves to 2-2 with the loss, while Sacred Heart improves to 2-0 with the win.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior Henry Sheehan got the Crusaders on the board just over seven minutes into the contest, though Sacred Heart was able to tie the game at 1-1 under a minute later. The Pioneers' extended the lead to 2-1 with 3:56 to play.
  • Sacred Heart netted three unanswered goals in the second quarter to extend the lead to 5-1, before sophomore Jon-Luke Duley responded with a goal to end the Pioneers' scoring streak with just over nine minutes to play in the half. Sophomore William Russler followed up on Duley's goal with one of his own to cut the Sacred Heart lead to 5-3.
  • Sacred Heart tacked on three goals before the end of the half to extend the lead to five, then opened the third with another. Two goals by Duley and a man-up goal by Messineo cut the Pioneers' lead to 9-6 going into the final quarter of regulation.
  • The Pioneers' opened the fourth with two goals to extend the lead back to five.
  • Sophomore Bo Webster picked up his fifth point the season and second goal in as many games with his goal with 2:55 remaining to bring the score to its final of 11-7.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Junior JR Long recorded 11 saves in the contest.
  • Duley extended his hat trick streak to three games with his three goals today.
  • Senior Baker Reding and sophomore Michael Rincon tied for the team lead in caused turnovers with two each, while Rincon, senior Owen Larson, and sophomore Gavin Clary each picked up a team-high three ground balls.
 
UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will return home on Saturday, Feb. 22 to begin a four game homestand when they welcome Dartmouth to Kuzniewski Field.
  • Game time is set for 1 p.m.
