WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's basketball team earned their fourth straight victory defeating Regis (Mass.) 69-47 in the Hart Center Arena Tuesday evening.
Following up his career-high performance versus Fordham, Junior guard/forward
Gabe Warren scored a game-high 16 points on 6-of-10 (60.0 percent) shooting with six rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block for the Crusaders (5-6). Junior forward
Will Aljancic tallied his highest point total as a Crusader notching 14 markers in 15 minutes off the bench.
Regis (Mass.) was led by Rob Elliott who scored a team-best 15 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Regis took their first lead of the contest at 4-2 when the Pride banked in a floater at the 15:45 mark. Their margin grew to 10-2 off a second chance score and a pair of driving layups with 12:09 left. Holy Cross took a timeout and then Regis's lead increased to 12-2 with about 10 minutes left.
- Aljancic stopped the Crusaders scoreless stretch driving the lane for two making it 13-4 with 9:07 left. That was a start of an 24-2 half ending run with Holy Cross scoring 18 straight getting nine from Warren, seven from sophomore guard Tyler Boston and six from Aljancic to lead 26-15 at the break.
- Warren eurostepped through the lane for a pair which opened up a 16 point, 38-22 Crusader edge with 15:52 left in the game. Regis clawed back via eight straight to trim their deficit to single figures at 38-30 with 12:56 left. Holy Cross countered notching an 11-2 run of their own to go ahead 17, 49-32 following a trio of freshman guard/forward Jude Haigh free throws with 10:11 left.
- Regis responded with an 11-2 run of their own dropping the deficit back down to eight, 51-43. Holy Cross regained control of the game down the stretch and collected the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Freshman forward Tim Finau scored his first collegiate points in the win.
- Senior forward Jaden Kirkwood came down with a career-best eight rebounds.
- Holy Cross started the first 10:07 of the game, 1-for-16 (6.3 percent) from the field, but was 26-for-49 (53.1 percent) the rest of the way.
- Both teams combined to go 0-for-24 from three point range in the first half.
