WORCESTER, Mass. – Three different players scored in double figures and the Holy Cross women's basketball team rolled to a 64-45 victory over the New Hampshire Wildcats in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at the Hart Center Arena.
The Crusaders improve to 3-4 on the season with the win, while UNH drops to 2-6.
Senior forward
Meg Cahalan led the way with 20 points, while junior guard
Janie Bachmann posted a career-high 13 points and eight rebounds in the victory. Fellow senior
Kaitlyn Flanagan tallied 11 points, six boards and five assists.
Eva DeChent paced the Wildcats with 18 points in the setback.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Cahalan scored the final two of her six straight points that gave the Crusaders a 6-5 lead for the time being. The layup ignited a 22-0 run that stretched into the early stages of the second quarter and Cahalan capped off the run with consecutive buckets to give the hosts a 26-5 advantage with 8:36 to play in the period.
- Bachmann notched six points during the run en route to her career day in the scoring column.
- Following a UNH free throw, the Crusaders scored nine straight points including five from junior Kendall Eddy that extended the lead to 29 points at 35-6 in the late stages of the second quarter.
- Eddy and freshman Brianna McDermott each buried a three during the remainder of the quarter which helped Holy Cross take a 38-13 lead into the locker room.
- Head coach Candice Green's squad opened the final 20 minutes on a 9-2 run and a Cahalan jumper stretched the advantage to a game-high 32 points (47-15) with 4:04 to play in the third quarter.
- Holy Cross took a 53-31 advantage into the fourth quarter and the Wildcats were unable to get any closer than 18 as the Crusaders notched their third victory of the season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Cahalan hit the 20-point plateau for the third time this season and has scored in double figures in all six games she has played in.
- For Bachmann, the Holmdel, N.J., native went 5-of-8 from the floor and her 13 points surpassed her previous career-high of 12 that had been set on Nov. 19 at Rhode Island.
- Bachmann's eight rebounds marked a season-high and the second-highest total of her career.
- Flanagan dished out at least five assists for the fourth time in seven games and her six rebounds matched a season-high.
- Elsewhere for the home team, Eddy contributed eight points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
- As a team, the Crusaders shot 42.9% (27-of-63) from the field and held a 44-35 edge in the rebounding battle behind Bachman's eight boards and seven from senior Mary-Elizabeth Donnelly.
- UNH was 18-of-58 (31.0%) from the floor, marking a season-low for a Holy Cross opponent.
- Holy Cross has now won five straight meetings against UNH dating back to the 2019-20 season and holds a 20-9 advantage in the all-time series.
