Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Foreman tallies double-double as women's basketball falls to Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard took the lead with a big third quarter run and the Holy Cross women's basketball team dropped a 61-46 decision to the Crimson in non-conference action on Wednesday night at Lavietes Pavilion in Cambridge.

The Crusaders fall to 3-5 on the season, while Harvard is now 5-5.

Senior forward Meg Cahalan led Holy Cross with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while classmate Simone Foreman added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Harvard had four players in double figures led by Saniyah Glenn who had 14.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The two teams traded baskets for much of the first quarter before Foreman converted a three-point play in the final minute that gave the Crusaders a 14-13 lead after one.
  • Things were deadlocked at 16 apiece before junior Kendall Eddy and senior Kaitlyn Flanagan sank consecutive threes to force a Crimson timeout with 7:44 to play in the second quarter.
  • From there, Harvard battled back and held a 27-25 edge when Cahalan tied the game with a tough layup in traffic. Flanagan hit a jumper on the next possession and Foreman converted a pair from the charity stripe to give Holy Cross a 31-29 advantage at the half.
  • The Crimson used the third quarter run to take a 46-31 lead and Holy Cross fought back to cut the deficit to 14 on a few occasions in the fourth, but were unable to get any closer.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Cahalan has scored in double figures in all seven games she has appeared in this season and leads the Patriot League in scoring at 17.9 points per game.
  • The double-double marked Foreman's second of the season and the 10th of her career.
  • Elsewhere for the Crusaders, Flanagan added seven points and junior Hannah Griffin recorded two points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
  • Griffin matched her career-high in both rebounds and assists on the evening.
  • Holy Cross held a 34-32 edge on the glass and shot 40.5% (17-of-42) from the field.
UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders will battle Bryant in Smithfield, R.I. on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
