WORCESTER, Mass. – Four players scored in double figures as the Holy Cross men's basketball team earned a 77-53 victory over nonconference foe Worcester State Wednesday afternoon in the Hart Center Arena.
Sophomore guard
Tyler Boston and junior forward
Aidan Richard led the way for the Crusaders (2-6) scoring 12 points each. Boston came down with a career-high seven rebounds and was 7-for-10 (70.0 percent) at the charity stripe. Richard got his hands in the passing lane frequently posting a personal-best three steals. Juniors
Gabe Warren (10 points) and
Declan Ryan (10 points) joined their teammates in double-figures.
Lancers' Ayme Daguilh led all players with a game-high 21 points to go with six rebounds and a steal in the setback.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Back-to-back three-pointers from Warren pushed the Crusaders ahead 9-4, 2:35 into the game. Worcester State took a lead 12-10 at the 12:22 mark thanks to a floater.
- Trailing by two, the Crusaders used a 10-0 run to lead 22-12 with Warren finding Richard in the corner for an open three during the burst. A pair of Boston free throws moved the margin to 26-18. There was a four and a half minute scoreless drought until the Lancers got a bucket. Warren connected on a last second score for the 28-20 halftime edge.
- Boston came out of the locker room scoring six straight points for Holy Cross and the 34-24 margin. Freshman forward Aiden Disu had a steal and breakaway two handed dunk making it 36-24. Ryan expanded the lead taking a Boston feed for the easy post score and the 15 point, 41-26 lead with 14:39 left.
- Freshman guard/forward Jude Haigh's three-pointer gave Holy Cross their first 20 point lead, 57-37 with 9:51 to play. The Crusader margin expanded to a high of 26, 72-46 thanks to junior forward Will Aljancic's corner three with 4:28 remaining.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Holy Cross' bench outscored Worcester State's 31-to-3.
- Both teams shot 32.1 percent (9-for-28) in the first half, but Holy Cross was 17-for-34 (50.0 percent) from the floor in the second half.
- Haigh scored his first career points in the contest, he finished with eight points, two assists, two steals and two three-pointers.
- Freshman forward Tim Finau made his collegiate debut while senior guard Ben Capron made his season debut in the contest.
