WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore guard
Tyler Boston scored a game-best 18 points as the Holy Cross men's basketball team earned a 76-59 victory versus nonconference foe Northeastern Wednesday evening in the Hart Center Arena.
Boston was 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) from the field, a perfect 4-for-4 (100 percent) at the line with four rebounds, a game-high matching four assists and two steals for the Crusaders (3-6). He was joined in double figures by junior guard/forward
Gabe Warren (12 points) and freshman forward
Aiden Disu (10 points).
The Crusaders came out of the locker room at halftime on fire making 14 of their first 15 shot attempts (93.3 percent) in the second half.
Mike Loughnane led the way for the Huskies (3-5) with a team-best 15 points in 27 minutes off the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A Northeastern three and a dunk following a Crusader turnover gave them a short lived 9-7 lead at the 16:17 mark. A 9-0 Crusader run capped off by a Warren steal to dunk opened a 16-9 edge about two minutes later. Back-to-back Huskies post scores brought them within three, 20-17 with about 10 minutes left in the half.
- A 22-8 Crusader run over the final 9:07 of the half with Disu notching eight points during the burst including an and1 and a three from the top of the point improved a three point lead to 17, 42-25 through 20 minutes of action.
- Holy Cross' lead grew to 20 points, 52-32 following a Boston to Nugent wing three connection with 15:49 left to play.
- A pair of junior guard John St. Germain free throws expanded the Crusader margin to a game-high 26 points, 76-50 with 6:36 remaining.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Junior guard/forward Joe Nugent moved to fifth place on the program's all-time three-pointer list (160) passing Austin Butler (158, 2017-21). He needs 14 more to climb to fourth place on the all-time list (173, Andrew Beinert (2007-11) and 63 to become the program's all-time leader.
- Holy Cross has shot over 50.0 percent from the field in two of the past three games.
- Northeastern led for only 11 seconds in the contest.
- The Crusaders' win against the Huskies was their first since Feb. 23, 2008.
- Holy Cross dominated paint (46-to-32) and fast break (18-to-7) scoring.
