Seven different Crusaders score in men’s ice hockey’s win over Alaska Anchorage

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team defeated Alaska Anchorage, 7-2, Thursday night at the Hart Center Rink.

With the win, Holy Cross improves to 8-5-1, while Alaska Anchorage moves to 3-8-0 with the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Anchorage got on the board first, 6:22 into the opening period.
  • With 34 seconds remaining in the first period, sophomore Noah Eyre picked up a loose puck at the blue line, finding senior Michael Abgrall, who drew the netminder to the left side of the net before sending a pass across the paint to an open senior Timothy Heinke for the wrist shot into the open net.
  • Senior Mack Oliphant opened the scoring in the second period with his second goal of the season, flipping the puck short side over the glove of the Seawolves netminder on the four-on-four opportunity just over three minutes in.
  • Senior Matt DeBoer netted the Crusaders' third goal of the night seven minutes later, cleaning up a rebound off a shot by senior Devin Phillips three seconds into the power play opportunity.
  • Abgrall picked up a goal of his own with seven minutes to play in the period, sending a quick shot off a pass by Eyre through the legs of the Seawolves goaltender.
  • Anchorage cut the lead to 4-2 with a power play goal just over a minute later, but it would prove to be their final score of the night.
  • Freshman Quinn McCall scored his first collegiate goal just over three minutes into the final frame, sending a wrist shot into the top corner of the net for the Crusaders' fifth goal of the contest.
  • Seven minutes later, sophomore Owen Kim picked up his second of the season, sending a one-timer off a pass from Oliphant past the outstretched goaltender.
  • Junior Jack Stockfish capped off the scoring with 6:44 to play in the contest, sneaking a tip off a shot by senior Jack Seymour into the back of the net.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Junior Connor MacKenzie recorded 21 saves in his fifth win of the season.
  • DeBoer's four points (1g-3a) is a career high.
  • With his +2 performance tonight, Seymour is now tied for the national lead in the category at +18.
