STORRS, Conn. – Junior
Manny Gendron and freshman
Naemi Herzig both scored goals, but the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team was defeated by No. 8 Connecticut 3-2 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders fall to 7-4-0 on the season and 0-3-0 in Hockey East, while the Huskies improve to 7-2-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Holy Cross opened the scoring in the first period, when Gendron netted a short-handed goal off a feed from senior
Charlotte Sonntag.
• UConn tied the game at 1-1 in the second period with a power play goal from Livvy Dewar.
• In the third period, the Huskies added goals from Megan Woodworth and Christina Walker just 23 seconds apart to take a 3-1 advantage.
• The Crusaders responded when Herzig redirected a shot by senior
Taylor Cantelon into the net, making it a one-goal game with 7:20 remaining.
• But that was as close as Holy Cross would get, as UConn held on for the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Senior
Brooke Loranger made a season-high 37 saves for the Crusaders.
• The Huskies finished the day with a 40-23 advantage in shots on goal.
NEXT UP:
• Holy Cross returns to action on Friday, Nov. 7, when it travels to Merrimack for a 6 p.m. game.
