WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior
Lane Lewis and freshman
Naemi Herzig both tallied one goal and one assist, as the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team defeated Maine 3-1 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders improve to 10-5-0 on the season and 3-4-0 in Hockey East, while the Black Bears fall to 4-8-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Maine opened the scoring 7:01 into the first period on a goal by Lila Shea.
• Holy Cross responded just 40 seconds later, with Lewis putting in a rebound after a shot by sophomore
Skyler Sharfman had been saved.
• Early in the second period, senior
Taylor Cantelon gave the Crusaders the lead with a slap shot from the blue line on the power play.
• Holy Cross then concluded the scoring late in the second period, with Lewis forcing a turnover and feeding Herzig for the goal.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Senior
Abby Hornung made a season-high 41 saves for the Crusaders, while improving to 7-3 on the year.
• Hornung now has 14 career victories, the most by a Holy Cross player in the Hockey East era.
• Lewis played in the 100th game of her collegiate career.
• The Black Bears finished the night with a 42-22 advantage in shots on goal.
