WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior
Charlotte Sonntag scored her fourth goal of the season, but the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team was defeated by Maine 2-1 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders fall to 9-5-0 on the season and 2-4-0 in Hockey East, while the Black improve improve to 4-7-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Holy Cross opened the scoring 5:19 into the first period when Sonntag found the net off a pass from junior
Emily Crovo.
• Maine responded 27 seconds later, with Brenna Curl scoring her first goal of the year.
• Another 1:32 after that, Lulu Rucinski netted a power play goal to put the Black Bears up 2-1.
• Despite several good chances at both ends of the ice, neither team would score again as Maine held on for the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Senior
Abby Hornung made 22 saves for the Crusaders.
• Sonntag now has 29 career points on 14 goals and 15 assists.
• Holy Cross finished the night with a 27-24 advantage in shots on goal.
NEXT UP:
• The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Nov. 14, when they conclude the weekend series with Maine at 5 p.m.
