NEWARK, Del. – Senior forward
Charlotte Sonntag scored her second goal of the season, but the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team was defeated by Delaware 2-1 at the Fred Rust Ice Arena. The Crusaders fall to 3-1 on the season, while the Blue Hens improve to 1-3 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• After a scoreless first period, Sonntag gave Holy Cross the lead 2:12 into the second, when she found the net after junior forward
Emily Crovo won a faceoff in the Delaware end.
• Less than four minutes later, the Blue Hens' Meera Smith tied the game at 1-1 just after a power play ended.
• Delaware then took a 2-1 lead later in the second on a power play goal by Katelynn Charlton.
• The Crusaders had several good scoring chances the rest of the way, but were unable to convert as the Blue Hens held on for the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Holy Cross finished the night with a 50-11 advantage in shots on goal.
• Sonntag is now tied for the team-lead with her two goals scored this season.
NEXT UP:
• Holy Cross returns to action on Friday, Oct. 10, when it travels to Boston College for its Hockey East opener at 6 p.m.
