Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's ice hockey rides three goal third period to win over Sacred Heart

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team defeated Sacred Heart, 5-2, Thursday night at the Hart Center Rink.

Holy Cross improves to 3-5-0 (3-1-0 AHA) with the win, while Sacred Heart moves to 3-3-0 (2-1-0 AHA) with the loss.


HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior Michael Abgrall got the Crusaders on the board with a power play goal just under seven minutes into the opening period. Senior Timothy Heinke sent a shot on net that Abgrall tipped past the Pioneers' netminder for the score.
  • Sacred Heart tied the game with 54 seconds to play in the period.
  • Abgrall struck again halfway through the middle frame, sending home a rebound off a shot by sophomore Noah Eyre to regain the lead at 2-1.
  • The Pioneers tied things up again just under six minutes later with a power play strike.
  • Eyre picked up a goal of his own 7:47 into the third period, netting a rebound off a Heinke shot to take the lead once again for the Crusaders.
  • Under three minutes later, senior Mack Oliphant scored his first goal of the season and the Crusaders' second power play goal of the game, sending a wrist shot from the blue line past the Sacred Heart goaltender to take the 4-2 lead.
  • Junior Jack Stockfished iced the game with 2:31 remaining, finding the vacant net on the Sacred Heart end to bring the score to 5-2.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Junior Connor MacKenzie recorded 25 saves in the contest.
  • Stockfish and Abgrall led both sides with 15 and 11 faceoff wins, respectively.
  • Abgrall's three points in the game tied his Holy Cross single game career-high.

UP NEXT:
  • The two teams will finish out the series tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m.
