WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team tied Sacred Heart, 2-2, before taking the extra point in the Atlantic Hockey standings by winning the shootout, 1-0.
Holy Cross moves to 3-5-1 (3-1-1 AHA) with the result, while Sacred Heart moves to 3-3-1 (2-1-1 AHA).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior Jack Stockfish got the Crusaders on the board first, taking the puck the length of the ice before sending a wrist shot over the shoulder of the Pioneers' goaltender halfway through the opening period.
- Sacred Heart tied the game at 1-1 with the lone goal of the second period.
- Stockfish regained the lead for the Crusaders under four minutes into the third period. Carrying the puck from the defensive zone, Stockfish sent a wrist shot from the slot into the back of the net for the score.
- Sacred Heart netted a power play goal halfway through the third to force the overtime period.
- Holy Cross outshot Sacred Heart 4-3 in the overtime period, but neither team was able to score.
- Senior Matt DeBoer scored the lone goal of the shootout to give the Crusaders' the extra point in the AHA standings.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- Junior Connor MacKenzie made 27 saves in the contest and stopped all three shootout attempts by Sacred Heart.
- Stockfish led both sides with 16 faceoff wins. The Crusaders dominated at the faceoff dot, taking 40 of the 68 draws.
- With his +1 rating tonight, Jack Seymour moves to +9 on the season, leading the Crusaders and Atlantic Hockey, and tied for fourth in the nation.
