WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team hosted Army to conclude the regular season and hold its Cousy Cup and Faculty and Staff Appreciation game. The Crusaders bested the Black Knights 3-1 to clinch the fourth seed in the Patriot League tournament.
IN GOAL:
- Holy Cross: Aubrey Haesche (W, 6-5-5), four saves
- Army: Karalyn Dail (L, 9-4-2), five saves
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior captain Karenna Beckstein netted her career first Olimpico at 26:27 in the first half. Just a minute and a half later and the Black Knights equalized with a goal by Grace Pohidal at 27:50. At 35:56, Beckstein picked off an Army pass to find junior forward Abby Cushing, who reclaimed the lead, connecting with the top left side of the net.
- The Black Knights led the Crusaders 8-6 in shots and 5-4 in corners through 45 minutes.
- At 78:54 in the second half, Cushing netted her second goal of the contest, heading in a great service into the box from senior forward Riley Grable for the 3-1 win.
- Army led Holy Cross 15-13 in shots and 6-4 in corners to conclude the game. The Crusaders had the 8-5 advantage in shots on goal.
UP NEXT:
- The Crusaders conclude the regular season with a 6-7-5 overall and 3-3-3 conference record, finishing the year in fourth place.
- #4-seeded Holy Cross will host #5-seeded Lafayette (5-7-6, 3-3-3) on Sunday, Nov. 2, for the Patriot League Quarterfinals.
- Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm at Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium in Worcester, Mass.
- This marks the sixth Patriot League postseason appearance for the Crusaders and the first time back in the conference tournament since 2019.
