WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team hosted #5-seeded Lafayette on Sunday afternoon in the Patriot League quarterfinal game. The Crusaders took the early 2-0 lead in the first half but the Leopards fired back to tie the game and force two overtimes. The contest ended in a 2-2 tie with Lafayette taking the 4-2 shootout win to advance to the semifinals.
IN GOAL:
- Holy Cross: Aubrey Haesche (T, 6-5-6), nine saves
- Lafayette: Catherine Apker (T, 5-6-7), nine saves
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- At 12:58 in the first half, fifth-year midfielder Sam Halligan blocked a Lafayette clear in the box and knocked in her fourth goal of the season for the 1-0 lead. With nine minutes left in the half junior captain Karenna Beckstein was fouled in the box. She successfully netted her penalty kick for the 2-0 advantage at 41:01.
- The Crusaders led the Leopards 11-5 in shots and 2-0 in corners through 45 minutes.
- Lafayette charged back in the second half netting two goals to tie the game at 62:05 and 79:39, both scored by Nadia Zaffanella. Regulation ended 2-2 and pushing the game into overtime.
- After two hard fought 10-minute overtime periods, neither team was able to net a golden goal, sending the game to shootouts.
- Holy Cross led Lafayette 29-21 in shots, 12-11 in shots on goal and 7-2 in corners to conclude the game.
- The Crusaders fell 4-2 in shootouts to end their run in the Patriot League tournament.
UP NEXT:
- The Crusaders conclude the 2025 season with a 6-7-6 overall and 3-3-3 conference record and a fourth-place team finish. Holy Cross will return to action in the fall of 2026.
