NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Junior
Austin Cutcher and senior
Jack Greiner both set new program records, to lead the Holy Cross men's swimming and diving team to a 150-146 victory over Iona at the Hynes Center Pool. The Crusaders improve to 1-2 on the year, while the Gaels fall to 2-2 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Greiner won the 200-yard butterfly (1:47.95) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:49.94) with new school record times, in addition to winning the 200-yard backstroke (1:48.65).
• Cutcher set a new school record by winning the 1,000-yards freestyle in a time of 9:31.78.
• Sophomore
Griffin Casey won the three-meter diving with an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 332.92, in addition to taking first place on the one-meter board (280.22).
• Sophomore
Peter Mottolese came in first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.34), while freshman
Andrew Villani placed first in the 100-yard butterfly (49.72).
• Also posting new personal best times for the Crusaders were senior
Zach Bubonovich (100-yard breaststroke / 55.37), senior
Quentin Miquel (100-yard backstroke (52.85) and junior
Jake Thompson (100-yards backstroke / 52.19).
IN THE RECORD BOOKS:
• Cutcher's time of 9:31.78 in the 1,000-yard freestyle bettered the mark of 9:33.03 set by
Patrick Walsh at the 2022 Patriot League Championship.
• Greiner broke the 200-yard butterfly mark previously held by
Rory Hess (1:50.18 at the 2022 Patriot League Championship), while bettering his own mark in the 200-yard individual medley (1:51.31 at the 2024 U.S. Open Championship).
