WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross volleyball team was defeated 3-0 by Patriot League foe American on Saturday afternoon in Blaney Gymnasium.

SET SCORES:
Eagles 3, Crusaders 0 (19-25, 17-25, 11-25)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • An American attack error leveled the score 4-4 early. Freshman setter/right side KK Green powered a kill with no set for the 5-4 Crusader edge. Trailing 14-12, Holy Cross strung together three straight including a sophomore middle blocker Lacey Murphy and senior setter Katie Russell block to take a 15-14 advantage at the media timeout. The Eagles rebounded producing four in a row coming out of the timeout for the 18-15 lead. American kept adding on scoring three more points for the 21-15 score. The Eagles captured the opening set.
  • The Eagles recorded the first ace of the match for the 4-3 margin in the second set. Junior outside hitter Taliah Lee and Murphy skied up high for a block on the outside putting their team down 9-5. A challenge reversal which resulted in a Lee kill with two freshman outside hitter Emma Sorensen aces and an American attack error brought the Crusaders within three, 16-13. American tallied three straight to regain the margin at 19-13. American closed out the set for the 2-0 match lead.
  • American notched the opening four points of the third set. Their run expanded to 10-2 as they led by eight. Following a timeout their lead grew to 15-3 as they completed the sweep.
INSIDE THE BOX:
  • Russell has 1,327 assists in her career and needs 63 more to move to 10th place on the program's all-time list.
  • Lee is four kills away from 200 on the season.
