ERIE, Pa. - The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team shutout Mercyhurst, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

Holy Cross improves to 1-3-0 (1-0-0 AHA) with the win, while Mercyhurst falls to 0-4-0 (0-1-0 AHA).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Junior Connor Welsh got the Crusaders on the board just over 12 minutes into the opening period. Picking up the puck in the corner, Welsh skated the puck to the middle of the ice before unleashing a wrist shot past the Lakers' netminder.
• Sophomore Matt Kursonis netted a shorthanded goal five minutes later to extend the lead to 2-0 going into the first intermission.
• Welsh picked up his second of the game - and third of the season - just under eight minutes into the middle frame. Collecting a pass from Kursonis, Welsh sent the puck blocker side on the breakaway for the score.
• Sophomore Noah Eyre scored his first collegiate goal just over a minute into the final period of regulation, sending a rebound off the Mercyhurst netminders' pads, to round out the Crusaders' scoring at 4-0.

BEYOND THE BOX:

• Senior Louden Hogg recorded his second career shutout in the contest, making 15 saves.
• Senior Michael Abgrall tied for the game lead with seven face-off wins.
• Sophomore Owain Johnston and freshman Dax Williams picked up their first collegiate points in the contest, recording an assist each.

• Holy Cross will return home to the Hart Center Rink for their home opener against No. 10 Quinnipiac on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
