WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman
Naemi Herzig, senior
Alexia Moreau and senior
Charlotte Sonntag all scored goals, as the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team defeated Dartmouth 3-2 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders improve to 4-2 on the season, while the Big Green open the year at 0-1 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Holy Cross opened the scoring in the first period, when Sonntag knocked in a rebound after a shot by senior
Taylor Cantelon had been saved.
• The Crusaders made the score 2-0 early in the second period, with Herzig netting her first career goal.
• Dartmouth trimmed the margin to 2-1 a few minutes later on a goal by Kenzington Lehman, before a power-play goal from Moreau gave the Crusaders a 3-1 lead headed to the third period.
• It remained a two-goal game until the final minute, when Cally Dixon scored with 16 seconds left after the Big Green had pulled their goaltender.
• But that was as close as Dartmouth would get, as Holy Cross held on for the win in the closing seconds.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• The Crusaders finished the night with a 23-19 advantage in shots on goal.
• Freshman
