EASTON, Pa. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team took a trip to Lafayette for a conference night game at Mike Bourger Field at Oaks Stadium. Strong defense, goalkeeping and a late goal led the Crusaders to the 1-0 road victory over the Leopards.
IN GOAL:
- Holy Cross: Aubrey Haesche (W, 5-3-4), eight saves
- Lafayette: Catherine Apker (L, 3-5-5), seven saves
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Neither team scored in the first half while Haesche led Apker 6-4 in saves.
- The Leopards led the Crusaders 8-5 in shots and 3-1 in corners through 45 minutes.
- Late in the second half, fifth-year midfielder Sam Halligan dribbled into the box, made a quick pass over to an open sophomore forward Ava Graham. Graham gave it right back to Halligan, who then netted the game-winner at 81:07. Haesche picked up her fifth shutout of the year.
- Lafayette led Holy Cross 12-11 in shots and 5-3 in corners to conclude the game. Both teams had nine shots on goal to end the competition.
UP NEXT:
- The Crusaders (5-5-4, 2-1-2) return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 15, for a 6:00 pm Turnpike Trophy showdown at Boston University (6-4-3, 3-1-1) in Boston, Mass. at Nickerson Field.
